GovGirl.com promotes government/citizen connection online
Kristy Fifelski, Contributor:
“GovGirl“ is a fun way to engage the younger generation, particularly females, with online government. The goal is to appeal to both government staff and citizens who are interested in working for or connecting with their government.
So what exactly is GovGirl? Basically it is centered on a video blog, a website with freebies and templates for online govies, and social media. I produced the first few videos, but I’ve got big plans for posts by guest bloggers and videos featuring guest ‘stars’.
My government peers are taking some noteworthy steps with Gov 2.0 and social media. I want to create short, fast-paced and fun videos that highlight some of these stories. With my third video, I think I finally found the style and tone I’m happy with for future videos.
I decided to launch GovGirl.com to reach a larger audience. I had been blogging at my namesake, kristyfifelski.com, for over a year about my insights on online government. All my old articles, for better or worse, have been moved over to GovGirl.com.
GovGirl.com has only been online for just over two weeks, and the response is pleasing. It already has an 88,000 traffic rank on Alexa in the U.S., 325 downloads of free template documents, and around 2,000 YouTube Channel views. I’m thankful for all the excellent feedback so far, and I’m very excited to see where this endeavor leads in the future as more people become involved in making it happen.
